5 Books to Help You Grow in 2019

This past weekend was such a great one! 2019 is really starting with a bang, but unfortunately, I was wrapped up in all the fun this weekend and didn't plan a ton of time for writing blog posts. Fear not -- today I'm coming at you with 5 book suggestions that will help make your 2019 fabulous. I read all of these books last year and really enjoyed them, so I wanted to share them with you today if you are looking for some non-fiction reads that will inspire you.

The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership by Jim Dethmer
This book was the basis of my independent study in my final semester of college, and I really enjoyed it! I thought that it was really interesting and different from some of the other leadership theory books out there, so if you like this kind of stuff, I highly recommend checking it out for something new. It has great tips that help you become a more conscious person in your personal life as well as your professional career.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leadership by Stephen R. Covey
This book is a leadership theory classic but I only read it for the first time over the summer. I really loved what Covey had to say as well and think that if you are just getting started in personal development and leadership theory, this one is a must read!

Wear No Evil by Greta Eagan
This is one of the books that I picked up as I started reading and learning more about sustainable fashion and style this year, and I really liked how Eagan structures her principles. Reading this book inspired lots of posts on the blog such as this, this and this.

The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
This book was part girl power and part scientific theory, which was the perfect thing for me! I feel like I learned a lot about the science of confidence while simultaneously feeling empowered by the authors. I know this was also on a few other blogger reading lists from 2018, so it is definitely worth checking out.

Dear Madam President by Jennifer Palmieri
It was really wonderful to read this book and memoir from Jen Palmieri about her time working on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. I found her advice relatable for any workplace, but think that it will especially resonate with anyone interested in entering a political field.

BONUS: Read a biography of one of your favorite people! While this might not be considered 'personal development' per se, I feel like I grew immensely this year from reading biographies of people whose work is truly inspiring. I began 2018 by reading a biography of Leonard Cohen and the history of his famous song, Hallelujah, while I was choreographing a piece to the song and looking to understand the lyrics better, and was blown away by the complexities that make this song so special to so many people. I also read biographies of Billy Joel and Jacqueline Novogratz, both of which I loved. Some of my biography reads lined up for 2019 include Jerry Seinfeld, Steve Nicks, and Mr. Rogers.
