Five Gadgets Every College Student Needs

Hey everyone!! Welcome back for a fun guest post today on The Scalloped Edge! Today's post from Jordan Davis is all about back-to-school tech that will help carry you through midterms and into the end of the semester. Keep reading to hear her great suggestions.

Five Gadgets Every College Student Needs

It's easy to forget that back to school means heading back to college, too, since the days of prepping for the coming semester by buying pens and a pretty three-ring binder are long gone. That doesn't mean that there's nothing today's driven college students need to pack, however. Whether you're a starry eyed freshman or a senior a step away from graduation, there's no denying that having the right gear is absolutely essential to making the grade.

Here are five of the gadgets we all need to succeed in the modern academic setting.

A Tablet that Does It All

Do you really need a laptop? Chances are the answer is nah. The iPad mini 4 is perfect for taking notes in class and for making sure you have all the books you need for a late-night study session in the library with your girlfriends. Even better, when you can finally wind down it's all you need to binge-watch your favorite shows when your tablet is equipped with T-Mobile's Binge On.

A Little Peace and Quiet

Good luck escaping the noise in the hope of making study sessions more productive – sometimes the library can be just as loud as the dining hall. QuietComfort noise cancelling headphones from BOSE are the ultimate in portable peace and quiet and they come in super stylish silver. But the price tag? Is up there. So if you'd prefer a less fashionable but more wallet-friendly set of cans, try Audio-Technica QuietPoint ATH-ANC1 headphones.

A Super Smart Notebook

Look around in class and you'll see people typing away but it turns out that taking notes by hand is actually the way to go. Of course, no one wants to have to transcribe notes after scribbling them on paper which is why the Moleskine Evernote Smart Notebook is so sweet. Write down your thoughts in ballpoint then transfer your musings from paper to pixels like magic with Evernote's page camera. Bonus: You'll look totally intellectual.

A Backpack + Battery Combo

There's nothing worse than seeing your tablet poop out on the way to class so swap out your old Jansport for the Ghostek NRGbag battery and backpack combo. It has a huge amount of space for your gear plus a rechargeable 10,400mAh battery powering two 1Amp USB ports and a 2.1Amp USB port so your gadgets won't ever die on the fly. Want to charge up while sun worshiping instead of plugging in? Opt for the Bellino G- Tech Solar Backpack instead.

A Backup Plan

No one believes dogs actually eat homework but we all know computers definitely do, so an external hard drive is like an insurance policy against the dreaded I for incomplete. The WD My Passport is an ultra-portable hard drive that comes in a ton of fun colors in addition to understated polished white and can hold up to 4TB of your most valuable data. Then again, if you're prone to accidents the LaCie Rugged Mini USB 3.0 is supposedly so tough that driving a car over it won't wreck your term paper.

Don't forget to make your gadgets your own! Sometimes it can feel like there's nothing out there but white, black and brushed silver so look for cases that coordinate with your fashion picks, and round out your collection of gear with goodies like Jabra’s Solemate speakers and funky flash drives that look like everything from Popsicles to poker chips.

So what if it's practically mid semester already? Ever if you haven't yet grabbed the gear you need it's never too late to make this your best year yet! Happy shopping!
